In England, children at key stages 1-4 in state-funded schools are entitled to receive Free School Meals if their parents or carers are in receipt of any of the following benefits:
- Income Support
- Income-based jobseekers Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided they are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190, as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs)
- Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- During the initial roll out of the benefit, Universal Credit
Additional Funding for Pupils Eligible for Free School Meals
St. Gabriel’s Catholic Primary School receives a pupil premium allocation for children eligible for free school meals, for children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months and for those children whose parents/carers currently serve in the armed forces.
Schools are permitted to allocate the pupil premium allocation as they see fit. We as a school will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding. From September 2012 we are required to publish information on line about how the pupil premium has been spent; please see below:
PUPIL PREMIUM
St. Gabriel’s Catholic Primary School receives a pupil premium allocation for children eligible for free school meals and for children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. Pupil Premium from April 2015 – March 2016 – 72,800 – 56 qualifying pupils at £1300 each.
St. Gabriel’s Catholic Primary School receives a pupil premium allocation for children eligible for free school meals and for children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. Schools are permitted to allocate the pupil premium as they see fit. As a school we are held accountable for how we use this additional funding.
Pupil Premium from April 2013 – March 2014 = £67,500 – 75 qualifying pupils at £900 each.
The allocation has been used in a variety of ways to improve pupil attainment and to help overcome barriers to learning. Closing the gap between disadvantaged pupils and other pupils in their progress and attainment is the focus. This is achieved by allocating:-
a.Support for one to one and small group teaching to raise standards where directed by very particular needs (£20,910)
b.Specific training for identified LSAs to support 2 early intervention programmes (£18,650) “Every child counts” and “FFT Reading”
c.Significant contribution to the salary of School Liaison & Support Officer (£16,300) and her ever widening role within school to meet need.
d.Resources for new intervention strategies (£4,360)
Reserve of £7,280 to be spent on:-
a.Funding resources for teaching and learning
b.Funding for trips, visits and residential experiences
As a school we will continue to encourage all families to claim entitlement to free school meals to allow St. Gabriel’s to receive its appropriate share of funding.
PUPIL PREMIUM
APRIL 2012 – MARCH 2013
The level of the premium is £619 per pupil known to be eligible for free school meals. The total pupil premium allocation is £46,425 (75 recorded pupils x £619)
This allocation has been used in a variety of ways to improve pupil attainment and to help overcome barriers to learning. These include:-
Funded targeted intervention for groups and individuals
Funding extra teacher in Spring Term 2013 in year 2
Funding the development of the role of Mrs McKay from Attendance & Welfare Officer to that of School Liaison & Family Support and her various interventions
Funding for SEN resources
Funding for resources for teaching & learning
Funding for trips, visits & residential events
As a school we will continue to encourage all families to claim entitlement to free school meals to allow St. Gabriel’s to receive it's appropriate share of funding.
